Rihanna is reportedly suffering from 'horrific' injuries after boyfriend Chris Brown allegedly attacked her on Sunday night.

US reports are claiming that R&B singer Brown struck Rihanna with his fists and that the star has been left with contusions, swelling, bruising, a bloody lip and even bite marks.

Brown is reported to have turned himself in. He was booked by police for criminal charges and, if convicted, could face up to nine years in jail.

LAPD sources report that police at the scene of the incident took photos of Rihanna's injuries, which show "devastating proof of abuse."

It's claimed that people in the area where Sunday night's attack took place heard Rihanna's screams from a car and called the police.

A witness was quoted by another US website as saying Rihanna was admitted to the Cedars Sinai hospital, where she was in great distress and still screaming as she was treated by medical staff.

Meanwhile, the Barbados-born superstar's family are said to be desperate to get her away from Brown.

A source said: "They want to get her back to Barbados. They want to keep her away from Chris right now."

Celebrity splits 2008

    Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil
"My Blakey" has asked La Wino for a divorce, following his admission that he's responsible for her drug-addled ways. And she's reported to have had divorce lawyers visiting her hospital bed. The prognosis does not look good.

And they're not the only celebrity couple who've hit the rocks in 2008...

    Guy and Madge
The Grand High Witch of Pop has had more relationships than she's had makeovers, so we're only surprised that her nuptials with Guy Ritchie lasted so long. After a "quickie" divorce, Madge agreed to give Guy a £32m payoff, making her rather less of a material girl.

    Matt Lucas and Kevin McGee
Just two years after saying "yeah but no but" at the registry office, Matt and Kevin became the first British celebrity couple to call time on a civil partnership. After citing "unreasonable behaviour" by McGee, the Little Britain star promptly became a gay divorcee.

    Ronnie and Jo Wood
Perhaps Ronnie Wood couldn't get no satisfaction from his wife Jo. Why else would he ask 20-year-old Ekaterina Ivanova to get her ya-yas out? According to the News of the World, Jo felt "humiliated, spurned, and furious" at the Rolling Stone's infidelity. But we're sure a rumoured settlement of £50million will help her get over it.

    Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe
The Hollywood B-listers, who'd previously admitted to being in couples' therapy, scratched their seven-year-itch by filing for divorce amid rumours that Phillippe was allegedly having an affair with Australian actress Abbie Cornish on the side. We wonder if Reese cited his "cruel intentions" in court.

    Pink and Carey Hart
Poor old Pink. It's just her and her hand since she divorced her motorbike-racing husband Carey Hart. However, he didn't go from seeing Pink to seeing red after their two-year marriage came to an end! A statement read that, "While the marriage is over, their friendship has never been stronger."

    Ivana Trump and Rossano Rubicond
The award for quickest celeb divorce of the year goes to socialite Ivana Trump, who left her 36-year-old partner, Italian actor Rossano Rubicondi, after just eight months. Trump, 59, was previously an advice columnist for Divorce Magazine. Perhaps she wanted something new to write about.

    Pamela Anderson and Rick Salomon
Why get a divorce when you can pretend your nuptials never happened? For example, serial trophy wife Pam had her latest marriage, to movie producer and professional gambler Rick, annulled after just two months. Mothers everywhere should lock up their sons.

    Michelle Heaton and Andy Scott-Lee
"Matt Di Angelo killed my marriage", raged Andy Scott-Lee after hearing rumours that his wife, former Liberty X starlet Michelle Heaton, was "Doin' It" elsewhere. Although Michelle denied having a fling with the EastEnders actor, the marriage was doomed and Andy went back to "Being Nobody".

John Cleese and Alyce Faye Eichelberger
What happened to John Cleese's 15-year marriage to Alyce Faye Eichelberger? Well, it's dead. Ceased to be. Is an ex-marriage. A judge in Santa Barbara ordered the Python alumnus to pay his ex-wife $75,000 a month in alimony and Cleese acquiesced, saying: "It will be worth every penny."
