Vote: Did Dannii overstep the mark with her comment to Danyl on X Factor?

A bit of gamesmanship between the judges is par for the course on The X Factor, but Dannii Minogue's controversial comment to Danyl Johnson went a bit further than the banter usually does.

She told the hopeful, who had just performed a song made famous by a woman: "If we're to believe everything we read in the paper, maybe you didn't need to change the gender reference in it."

Danyl was left speechless by the reference to tabloid reports that he is bisexual, and there was an embarrassing silence in the studio.

On the results show the next night Dannii apologised, but insisted that Danyl hadn't been upset and that they had joked privately about the newspaper reports.

Despite having seemed furious the night before, show boss Simon Cowell also defended Dannii and insisted she'd meant no harm.

Dannii Minogue your duty on the xfactor is to judge the contestants on their vocals and proformance,their personal life and words within a song chosen is not a part of the act. In this business one needs to be confident, your job is to boost their confident not break them down. Danyl you are brilliant and I can assure you sing and proform better than Dannii Minogue even with all the experience she has, for someone who sings and proforms in this fashion, you need not have the likes of a judge telling you anything because what they found was a star already made, not one they inted to make. So Dannii Minogue it seems you could be watching a star on the x factor, maybe you should take so tips from the hopful it might just increase your career in the world of singing..

I agree comments of this nature should not be addressed in Public. However, everyone is totally aware of the nature of the X Factor and especially that Simon has demonstrated this type of comment and much worse from DAY 1.

Danni is an honest, professional and fair lady, who never has a bad word to say about anyone. Despite her excellent qualities, she is after all a human being. As such a slip of the tongue on a 1 off bases, must surely be forgivable.

Are you in fact human yourself, or have you never made a comment, for which you regretted immediately after your tongue engaged that damaging blow.

I forgive you wether you are a human being or not, for whatever you may say right or wrong, can you do the same for Danni. I can. Regards Derek

It wasn't a slip of the tongue that made Danni say what she said no ordinary person would have thought to say what she said sure its a song that was sung by a woman, but to add what she added was not on!!!! I SURE MISS SHARON OSBOURNE

I thought it was bloody hilarious!! Don't normally watch reality shows but just happened to turn the TV over that night! At the end of the day it is a free country to say what we wish (Well its supposed to be) and if people take offence to things that are said then its their problem and they need toughen up!!!! This country is full of wimps!!

Danyl absolutely nailed the song and I am at a complete loss as to why he was critisized by three judges . But for Danni to wade in about his personal life is unforgivable . He has more talent than she ever had . Who is she ? She is the untalented sister of a famous singer .

Danni was bang out of order, i dont believe the apology was sincere, she was made to do it and really didnt want to in my eyes! Danni has played out her welcome on this show now if she ever had one! GET DANNI OUT!!!!!!!!!

Another load of old tosh!
Who cares anymore about nothings like this, its just the goody goodies moaning as usual about something and nothing. Its like you cant speak and jibe and have a laugh anymore without a minority making a big deal of it, Danii you have done nothing wrong in my book it is all part and parcel of life itself and if you want to be in the public spotlight then you come to expect things such as this otherwise crawl away and stay at home.

i agree, dani didn't do anything wrong. it was apparently a private joke she'd already shared with danyl before the show. it seems to me that dani's been singled out, but what about cheryl and her comment to the girls and how they dress? surely no-one can berate on judge and not another? if it were me, i think i'd be more upset about how cheryl implied the girls were still pole dancers or whatever, rather than an off the cuff remark about danyl, afterall he was the one who said he fancied both genders. that kind of remark leaves you open for all sorts of comments and judgements from others

It was a homophobic jibe. WTF has anyone's sexuality got to do with anything ?? If you truly think it is ok to make such a comment at ANY time, nevermind on national TV, then you need to attend some awareness groups my friend. My kids were equally appalled at the comment. Even my youngest at 11 knows that someone's sexuality doesn't make them a better or worse person than anyone else. But then, my kids have been raised in an non-prejudiced environment. They KNOW that sort of comment is wholly unacceptable and that a person's sexuality is irrelevant.

I agree this has been taken out of context and is no worse than the media prints daily.If there is truth in it better it out now than when he has progressed further, maybe Danni has done him a favour both personally and for the benefit of additional votes. Who cares if a guy is gay or bi sexual anyway I look for entertainment value and he is good.

What does it matter what sexuality he is? Who actually cares? If he is gay does that change his performance? The guy is an incredible talent which is something she wasn't! I thought we had grown out of implicating somebody's sexuality in 2009...
She was very much out of order for her comments and then to say that he wasn't upset my the remarks is ridiculous! he didn't know where to put himself!

I agree whole heartly with jack's comments of Dannii's comment I think it a disagrace that she made those comments why what is wrong with male person singing a womens songs.
I think Dannii had no other comment to make about the compitor so she came out silly comments.

He was very embarassed and upset about the comments as if the poor chap wasn't nervous enough already. Also the childeren he teaches will have been watching and they can be so cruel and unforgiving !!!!

I agree Jack,and I dont believe his sexuality should be discussed on national tv without his permission,its a talent competition and he has plenty of that,so that should be all Danni is passing judgement on.
