Vote: Did Jamie Archer cheat in The X Factor?

If you were anywhere near a TV set over the weekend then you may have noticed that it was big band week on The X Factor - although the memo didn't seem to have arrived with contestant Jamie Archer.

The pub singer took his mentor Simon Cowell's advice and performed a relatively straight version of U2's bluesy-rock classic Angel of Harlem - making fellow judge Louis Walsh furious.

Louis told him: "This is big band week and you came out and sang a U2 song. I just feel it's cheating a little bit. I'm not blaming you, I'm blaming Simon."

And some AOL users seem to agree, because a comment on our gallery from Sue said: "Personally, I disliked Jamie this week... getting bored of him turning everything he sings into rock, and I do like rock so it's got nothing to do with musical taste."

What do you think? Was he cheating by singing a normal version of the song, just with more brass?

Three of the contestants didn’t sing big band so why pick on one performer

Completely agree - it's absurd - all of them should have done 'big band', to pick on just one of them that didn't makes you ask why...? Also - how ironic that Louis voices his opinion, yet he gave John & Edward a Ricky Martin song! Anyway - lets be honest, this issue is nothing to do with the contestants - it's the mentors.

just like to point out that "proud mary" is a creedence clearwater revival song, and anyone who has any musical knowledge will know that it is not a big band song, so obviously sme people have no musical knowledge. so he did not cheat

A few of the songs weren't strictly classed as big band. Ricky Martin is hardly big band????

yeah and since when has "She Bangs" been a big band song ?? Louis is just an idiot - he proved that by picking the twins and now he only has them left !!!!

I agree,Why pick on Simon & Jamie, when Louis picked "Ricky Martin" for the terrible twins & Danni picked "Tina Turner"......the "Big Band" week should have applied to them all. And none of the 3 above are big band....Even the xtra factor interview with Michael Buble confirmed this!!!

I totaly agree with Sue there were others that did not sing big band songs, and anyway its not the contestant its their mentor's who inflence the contestants. We should judge the contestants on their talent and how they performed.

The only reason Jamie has been singled out is because quite frankly he is bloody good - the rest are no marks, so nobody cares if they have 'cheated' or not

totally agree with you, 3 didn't sing big band so why just pick on jamie, what about the other 2. as for louis one of them was his, i'm sorry but ricky martin, come on no way is that
