Quite a few people on this list who hardly qualify as 'stars' (as billed in the standfirst). OK, I wasn't expecting to see Keats (died aged 26), Chatterton (19) or Alexander the Great (33) but thought the likes of Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and James Dean might have got a mention ahead of some of the names here who, let's face it, will be largely forgotten in a year or two. Yet another lazy, dumbed-down list in this series...

I totally agree, we might have even been expecting to see Freddie Mercury, Frank Zappa, JFK, Martin Luther King as well as all the other real famous people put forward in the comments...but no...this list is poor at best.

Oh yeah and they missed off Jesus, he's quite famous.

your article too young to die has omitted Michael jackson who evidently was about to perform a cutting edge spectacular concert at the o2 arena, a musical genius, icon and inspiration to people in every corner of the world!! Oh what was anna nicole smith's talent?Celebrity does mean to celebrate a persons talent does nt it?

I was surprised the ex of Matt Lucas was on there, he wasn't a celebrity, just the former partner of one? He's hardly one you would expect on the same list where you find River Phoenix, Kurt Cobain and John Lennon!

Why worry about so called 'stars' and their early demise. They were probably rich and spoilt in their lives. Grieve for our soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq who are 'too young to die'

Don't bring illegal occupations into it, if you want to spout your nonsense go on to a pro- war site, they choose to die, if they want to fight then they know the risk of an early death, that's not the same with talented creative people, the soldiers are trained government pychopaths, get your nonsense off here and if you want to comment in future stay on topic.

I must admit, I had never heard of some of these people on the list. They certainly aren't at the top of my list. No one deserves to die early, but those who took drugs knew the risks, too, so some of the above comments are a bit biassed. Soldiers don't choose to die - heads of countries cause that to happen to them by sending them to war, instead of keeping them here to defend our country. If they did the latter, loads of innocent families in Iraq, for instance, would still be alive, instead of having died early.

There are people dying now that have never died before. Just a pity john and edward are still with us, clearly the most annoying and talentless duo ever to darken our screens.Probably been molly coddled from a young age and brain washed into thinking they are something by their over enthusiastic snob parents with visions of grandeur and fame.. They are without doubt the biggest joke of the decade.

I did go off at a tangent on this and I did not intend to debate the war but I still feel our young soldiers are the true celebrities and just compare their pay and the ultimate price they paid with the riches of say Big Brother 'stars'. Of course there are many wonderful young people in the arts that we have lost too soon and I agree with those mentioned such as Heath Ledger, Janis Joplin and James Dean. In other areas Steve Biko, John F Kennedy and Martin Luther King were huge losses. Despite the bitter and indoctrinated twaddle from an earlier contributer, I will continue to air my views when and where I choose. I shall not however be reading any further tosh from her.
