It might have added even more humour to the most recent Jedward performance, but Calvin Harris is insisting there was a valid and important reason behind his storming of the X Factor stage. The Scottish DJ leapt onto the stage during the twins' performance on Saturday's X Factor show and was due to appear on follow-up The Xtra Factor, but had already been ejected by security.
But Calvin has a point to prove and claims that he wanted to make a stand against the show's creator, Simon Cowell.
Harris told BBC Radio One: "I was just inspired to make a mockery of the show. Because it is a music competition, it is a joke and I think it should be treated as such.
"It's terrible. As entertainment goes it's pretty much down there with the worst. If you look at the chart, it's like a frightening stranglehold that Simon Cowell has got over the entire music chart in the UK at the moment."
That's all very well, Calvin, but what could possibly replace the likes of Jedward?
Calvin added: "It would be nice to seem him use that power a little bit more creatively. I think it just shows that he's not really a music fan. Why can't he make groundbreaking music popular?
"He's pretty much just releasing the same records again and again and again."
Hmm... we see your point, but surely a "groundbreaking music" X Factor would prove even harder to listen to.
