Paul O'Grady's pet dog Buster dies

Buster, the pet dog of TV star Paul O'Grady, has died at the age of 14.

The decision was taken to put the shih tzu-and-bichon frise cross to sleep after the popular pet was diagnosed with cancer.

Buster retired from our screens earlier this month after being a regular star on O'Grady's Channel 4 chatshow. To the delight of the live audience, the dog would sit on the comedian's desk as he read out his postbag messages.

A spokesman for O'Grady - who was previously famous for appearing as the character Lily Savage - has confirmed that his is "absolutely gutted" at having to take the decision and put an end to his pet's suffering.

The Paul O'Grady Show is currently in its final series. The comedian will launch a new primetime ITV1 programme in 2010.

It is heartbreaking when a cherished pet dies so sympathies to Paul who will miss Buster.

So very sorry to hear this news. Buster had a very good life with Paul but I'm sure he is distraught without Buster. Such a shame!

we lost the best riend at 14 but he never left use we stil hear him and feal him arrownd the house we could never forget him his name is max and i would give the worl to have him back he sites in a ginger jar over the TV

Sorry to hear about Buster, i have just lost my dog too, he was a boxer, he was 14 years old thats a good age for a boxer, the best cure is to get another one

So sorry Paul, Buster will not suffer and he had a wonderful happy life with you. I too lost my Cairn Terrier Rudi at the age of nearly 14 and thought I would never get over it. I now have those lovely memories of him and will never forget our days together.

Life seems so short and fleeting, especially to those we love. People who can not appreciate the loss of an animal, find it so difficult to understand why animal lovers greave in just the same way as if a family member or close friend has passed over.

Buster will be sorely mist, we can only hope that we will meet again, when all the pain and suffering has been removed once and for all.

Buster was loved more than he could ever imagine and i know that inside Paul will be heart broken. I found it helped to remember all the happy and positive times i had with my Irish Kerry Blue Terrier. As for the statement it helps to overcome the pain by attaining a further animal strait away, to be at times short sighted. You first have to greave at the loss of your previous pet.

Just jumping in and buying a further pet can in some instances be the wrong path to take.

The continued presence of Paul will keep Buster as alive as ever, you simply cannot lose fourteen years over night. Buster was just as much a part of the show as Paul himself was. So Buster's place on the table has been replaced, but never will it be surpassed.

Buster lies in people's hearts and no one can ever remove that presence.
