On the same day that we reported Leona Lewis has spent £1.8m buying a nice big house in Hollywood, P Diddy is claimed to have spent the same amount celebrating his 40th birthday.

The hip-hop mogul is reported to have splashed out that enormous sum on a lavish bash in the grand ballroom at New York's exclusive Plaza Hotel.

Jay Z, Bono, Martha Stewart, Denzel Washington and Nelly were among the big names in attendance at the event.

The party had a Garden of Eden theme and Diddy is reported to have spent £18,000 alone on an orchid display. There was also a black chandelier and black dancefloor.

The Sun quoted a source as saying: "He really pushed the boat out for this one - and then some. It was an amazing party and Diddy was on great form."
